Le Manège de Monsieur Barré

This photograph does not have the humorous elements that many of Doisneau's other works have; instead this work is more serious in tone. The carousal and street are empty because of the downpour of rain. This photograph is particularly beautiful because of Doisneau's use of the little light that is shown. The light reflects the raindrops hitting the ground and the drops in motion falling from the sky. There is a somber and empty feel to it because of the lack of children and people. However the somberness is not in an ugly way, it is a striking photograph, which holds the whimsical feeling of a memory.
