Robert Doisneau Bio
Robert Doisneau was born in Gentilly, France in 1912. He came from a middle class family and when he got older he studied at the École Estienne in Paris. Doisneau began working as a photographer for an advertising company and the newspaper. When he was called for duty in World War II, he continued to take photographs. The war was an intense time for France and after it the country suffered from instability and the large death count. However Doisneau’s work does not focus on the suffering of France during this time, instead his photographs are humorous and capture brief, pleasant moments of daily life. There is a theme of a simplistic lifestyle in his works that gives them a peaceful feeling.
