The Food of the Medieval Muslim World
Foods such as harisa and sambusak are popular in today's Muslim world but have their roots in the medieval Islamic cuisine. Food innovations such as pasta and sugar from sugar cane might not be from European sources but are argued by food historians to have emerged from Arab conquests. Connections of what Muslims eat today to what Muslims in 12th to 16th centuries ate and cooked will be explored. Also, alcohol is a prohibited drink in Islam but was still drank by some Muslims in the early days of Islam.
