This is one of a series of study photographs taken by Edward H. Bennett in preparation for designing Wacker Drive and new river bridges north and west of the central business district.

The photo shows a man and a woman as pedestrians. The trolley is labeled "N State Street." The building on the right across the river is the John M. Smythe & Co. furniture business, apparently a warehouse.
