This ts the first of two groups of images by Nancy Nichols taken by her for research purposes when working on her 2008 book, Lake Effect. Shown are factories in the Waukegan Harbor area, with the tall smokestacks the historic early 20th c. Commonwealth Edison central Electric plant, a creation of Lake County resident and electric czar Samuel Insull. The other plant may be the oldJohns-Manville plant.
