A substantial development program brochure- Breakthrough Program-providing a number of opportunities for donors who wish to honor a particular person or family name for new facilities and endowments. The only facility built was the Sports Center designed by Edward Dart, of the Chicago-based Loebl Schlossman firm. It was partially demolished and expanded in 2010. 

Not built were the significant Fine Arts Center designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes and the environmentally suspect ravine-located residence hall between Middle and North Campuses. The endowment fundraising was not successful; some funding for the arts center was applied to the 1980 renovation of Durand Institute for he Art Dept.

After the completion of the Donnelley Library, 1964-65, and of the South Campus residence halls, 1963-65, the grwoing "generation gap" over social issues (Civil Rights, drugs, the Vietnam War/draft) led to a wedge being driven between the College and its local donor base.  Locals may also have worred about a major cultural and entertainment venue in the heart of east lake Forest, attracting outside visitors.
