Description

The 1968-completed Sports Center, designed by architect Edward Dart of Chicago's Loebl Slossman firm, featured an Olympic scaled swimming pool on its east side. This view is from the northeast corner looking toward the diving board. An early star swimmer was Diana Nyad '70, still nationally known as a long distance swimmer and television commentator. It also was shown in the 1979-made Academy Award Best Picture (1980) "Ordinary People" based on the novel set in Lake Forest.
