Blackstone Hall men residence, a room
Title
Blackstone Hall men residence, a room
Subject
Blackstone Hall - Interior
Description
"Blackstone's rooms are large, airy, and bright. Here's a typical example." This mid 20th C. image was created for recruitment purposes. The platform rocker, fabrics, and books were typical of the 1940s and 1950s.
Blackstone Hall was completed in 1907, largely a gift of Mrs. Timothy Blackstone in memory of her late spouse, a Chicago financier and one-time head of the Alton Railroad. Mrs. S. S. Reid, who lived opposite, also contributed. With its twin Harlan Hall, 1908, it was built to house men's fraternities under President Richard Harlan. See "The Princeton Connection" in "30 Miles North....," the college history (2000), for more on the impulse behind the construction.
