Title

Catalog of Lake Forest University, 1890-91

Description

This title page from the 1890-91 Catalogue of Lake Forest University appears on p. 39 of "30 Miles North." It shows an early use, under president William C. Roberts (1886-92), of the term "Lake Forest College" to denote the co-educational four-year post secondary program of the university, based in Lake Forest. It also shows that in addition to the preparatory schools, a women's colleagiate-level program at Ferry Hall and a graduate program also were offered in Lake Forest at the time, along with three Chicago-based professional schools. Most of these departments were larger in enrollment than the co-educational college.

for about a decade the College produced two catalogs, one for the Lake Forest campus with summary Chicago information and one for the Chicago programs with summary Lake Forest information. THe professional programs were divested by 1903 when the University ceased to issue a catalog per se and the College issued its own, as did Ferry Hall (by then preparatory only) and Lake Forest Academy. Graduate programs had also ceased.
