Hiram Stanley (1857-1903), Class of 1881, the University's first full-time librarian, produces a printed catalog of the collection. He received his B.D. degree from Andover Seminary, and was an instructor at Lake Forest University in Philosophy and Art, 1887-92. IN 1892 he became the first full-time librarian at the institution, and in 1903 produced a printed book catalog, expandable with with paste-ins (as at the British Museum library still in the 1960s). Ill, he was replaced by Mabel Powell in 1901 (to 1942), and he died in New York state in 1903.
He produced a substantial volume of scholarly writing, books and articles.
