Description

This is an unsent half-tone color postcard (item number 408) published by E. A. Bishop, Racine, WI, showing the nineteenth-century Soldiers' Monument at the center of the shade-tree lined Court House Park in Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois. This lake front city is south of Racine, in the first county south of the state line and also the county seat. E. A. Bishop flourished as a postcard publisher mostly of Wisconsin images apparently in the 1930s, perhaps in the 1920s and 1940s, as well. The cardcow.com site (accessed on March 1, 2012) showed over one-hundred and fifty E. A. Bishop Wisconsin postcards in stock, but only six from outside the state, three from Illinois--two of Waukegan and one of Starved Rock. This is one of three Waukegan views here, but not on the cardcow.com site.
