Black Rap, Volume 1 no. 3 (November 6, 1968)

Title

Black Rap, Volume 1 no. 3 (November 6, 1968)

Subject

Underground periodical

Description

This is the third issue of Black Rap, from late 1968 (mention of "X-mas" gifts). This was the first full semester for Lake Forest College after the assassination of minority Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King in April of 1968, the assassination of liberal Sen. Robert Kennedy in June 1968, and the confrontations over policy at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Ill. (thirty miles south of campus) in August 1968. This issue reflects the fears and concerns of the African-American student population and also the beginning of push-back by some others from within the campus community. As in issue no. 2, the language is occasionally heated and intemperate.
