Description

San Pete Valley. Steam locomotive #50 in a postcard view.

2-8-0 wheel type

San Pete Valley # 50 steam locomotive, built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, in 1896.  Later this was the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad's # 680 (D&RG 680).

"Taken at Nelphi, U. Abt. 1899," from the penciled notes on the rear of this postcard image. Nephi, Utah, is in the center of the state, in an agricultural area, and the town today has less than 5,000 inhabitants.  The name comes from the Book of Morman

Two train crew members are standing beside the locomotive, as well.

In August of 1924, this engine was scrapped.
