Description
Adjacent to the renovated and expanded Deerpath Hall and also neighboring Durand Institute, a new formal garden space, Deerpath Court, was created in June of 2001, the setting for this new bronze sculpture by Emeritus Professor of Art Michael Croydon, in memory of his late former colleague, Louise Smith Bross.
Local resident Louise Smith Bross was a graduate of Smith college, 1961, earning also in 1994 her Ph.D. in art History from the University of Chicago. She taught art history at Lake Forest in 1995 and 1996.
British-born Michael Croydon was chair of the Art Department in 1995 and 1996, and he taught from 1968 to 1996, retiring to France. His sculptures are on view in U.S. and international collections, with several in Lake Forest.
Deerpath Court was constructed by P. Clifford Miller, reportedly to designs by Mrs. Smithfield.
