Deerpath Hall Lounge
Title
Deerpath Hall Lounge
Subject
Deerpath (1956 - 1999) - Interior
Description
Seven people sitting in a room with a coffee table, chairs, and couches. Each individual seems to be engaged in either a conversation or reading something. A Shoji Screen is present in the background.
The women's residence hall lounge (Naess & Murphy, architects), where at specified times women could meet men visitors under parietal rules, reflected the modern style of the mid 1950s, with its Japanese and European design influences. The women's expansive and patterned skirts were in vogue then, as well--not completely unlike the hoop skirts of nearly of a century earlier!
In the rear through the windows can be seen the half-timbered north wing of Alice Home, another women's dorm, 1943-65, previously the town hospital (1899, Frost & Granger).
