Subject
Deerpath (1956 - 1999) - Interior
Description
In the period before the end of parietal hours, when women were signed in and when men were not allowed in women's rooms, men were entertained by women only in the residence hall lounge, in open view. This image is from ca. 1960.
In this period the age of majority was 21, and young people at college were thought to be subject to College authorities acting for their parents, or in loco parentis. Prior to 1971 and the 26th Amendment, the age to vote was 21; in most states the age of majority became 18 then, with parental rights over the persons of their children ending at 18. By extension colleges had to begin treating most students as adults then.
