Description
Dr. Seuss, Theodor S. Geisel, is shown here second from the right, among those receiving honorary degrees at Lake Forest College in June 1977--with College President Eugene Hotchkiss III in the center. The other honorees are, from the left, Cecil Partee, Thomas Moran, and Edith Foster Farwell. Partee, d. 1994, was a Chicago Mayors Daley dynasty stalwart and was completing his service as president of the Illinois State Senate. Nominated in 1976 for State Attorney General, he was the first African-American to run for state-wide office in the state. Mrs. Albert Farwell, Lake Forest, was an eminent gardener and garden writer (My Garden Gate is on the Latch, 1962; the Fairy's Garden, 1966; etc.), and as a member of the Lake Forest Garden Club received prestigious national GCA awards.
