Description

Tarot decks are one of the most common forms of divination today. In ancient Egypt, they had a form of card divination that eventually inspired tarot. While the exact origins of tarot for divination are unknown, in Italy they invented tarot decks with playing cards by adding more to the deck and this is suspected to be the origins of modern tarot. A tarot deck has 78 cards, 22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana. The two arcana are separated similar to playing cards, face cards and number cards. Each card has an associated meaning, but every deck has different interpretations, styles, and illustrations. This is why many witches have multiple decks, one may gently suggest a new path while the other tells you to buck up and figure it out so to speak. Oracle decks are different, they can be made of anything, they do not have the same cards or associations as a tarot deck. They serve the same purpose, guidance and advice, but can be much more personal to the illustrator/author of the deck.
