Patterson Lodge, front entry

Title

Patterson Lodge, front entry

Subject

Patterson Lodge

Description

This is a black and white photo of the front entrance into Patterson Lodge with two people nearing the entrance. There's a sign above the door that says "Admissions Patterson Lodge". There are some bikes present in the photo. The building now houses the Admissions and Financial Aid offices of Lake Forest College.

This entry porch is consistent with ones for North and College Halls, the former constructed in 1897 (Frost & Granger) and the latter after 1935 apparently by Anderson & Ticknor, the likely architects for this entry replacing the 1880 piazza). In 1993 the piazza would be reconstructed.

"Patterson Lodge originally served as the president's house, though it was built after Presdifent Patterson, during President Gregory's term. It is first recorded with the name "Patterson" when it was refurnished in 1927 as a residence hall for women. Later, the building served as administrative offices and as housing for faculty and staff " (Elizabeth A. Birnbaum on Patterson Lodge in "Lake Forest College: A Guide to the Campus," 2007, pp. 33-34).
