Patterson Lodge, from the southwest

Title

Patterson Lodge, from the southwest

Subject

Patterson Lodge

Description

Black and white photo of Patterson Lodge (President's House, 1880). The porch, or piazza, which was part of the original design of the building, is not present in this picture, but has since then been restored to the building. There is a small sign above the door that's titled "Admissions Office". The building now houses the Admissions and Financial Aid offices of Lake Forest College.

The style of the building is French Second Empire, made of bricks fired from yellow campus clay.

"Patterson Lodge originally served as the president's house, though it was built after Presdifent Patterson, during President Gregory's term. It is first recorded with the name "Patterson" when it was refurnished in 1927 as a residence hall for women. Later, the building served as administrative offices and as housing for faculty and staff " (Elizabeth A. Birnbaum on Patterson Lodge in "Lake Forest College: A Guide to the Campus," 2007, pp. 33-34).
