This 3 x 5 inch color photograph shows three figures, from the left: an unidentified student, James Farmer, and Eugene Hotchkiss, 1928- . After a presentation in Lilly Reid Holt Chapel, Middle Campus, Lake Forest College, the institution's President Hotchkiss is holding a copy of Farmer's 1985-published book, Lay Bare the Heart: An Autobiography of the Civil Rights Movement, so that Farmer can sign it for him (this book, the copy shown, now is in Special Collections, and the front flyleaf inscription reads: "To President Hotchkiss, / With appreciation for / his kindness and/ graciousness -- / James Farmer / 3-24-86").
